LUCANIA. Metapontion. Circa 400-340 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 22 mm, 7.51 g, 12 h). Head of Demeter to left, wearing ampyx, earring and necklace; to right, A [with ΡΙΣΤΟ below cross-bar]. Rev. ΜΕΤΑ Ear of barley with seven grains and leaf to left; above leaf, alabastron. HN Italy 1520. Noe 425. Very rare. Lightly toned and of lovely style. Traces of cleaning and with light scratches on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.

Privately acquired from H. Wickert and previously from a European collection, ex Giessener Münzhandlung 84, 13 October 1997, 5078 (with collector's ticket).
